Granite adhesive for flooring tiles

The use of granite adhesive for flooring tiles implies the availability of a special adhesive that has been manufactured for affixing low-porosity heavy granite floor tiles to all substrates like concrete and cement. This adhesive is far much more reliable than the ordinary tile adhesives because it provides higher strength, resistance to ripping, durability against weather conditions and structural durability of the flooring installation. It’s important to note that the choice of the granite floor adhesive will determine the flatness of the floor tiles, durability of the bonding, resistance to cracks and the overall life span of the flooring system.
Granite floor tiles possess dense structure, low water absorption and high density, which means strict requirements to the adhesive have to be met. This adhesive is quite different from the cement mortar which can result in the appearance of hollows due to its low effectiveness and flexibility problems.Essential Granite Adhesive Types for Floor Tiles
Currently in the market, the major types of granite floor tile adhesives are based on their formulation and features, and thus can be classified into three types of adhesive with each of them having particular types of environment applications:
1.1 Polymer-modified cement adhesive for granite
This is the most commonly used affordable adhesive for both indoor and outdoor flooring made of granite. It consists of quality cement, well-graded quartz sand as well as polymer resin additives and hence has excellent thin layering bonding properties. By virtue of its thin-layer bonding performance, this adhesive makes the thin-bed construction (approximately 2-6 mm thick layers of adhesive) possible which helps in avoiding hollowing and deformation of floors due to excessive shrinkage of the mortar.
Main characteristics: This adhesive possesses high bonding strength, great flexibility, anti-slip properties during construction, resistance to water and frost, environment friendly since it contains no formaldehyde component and is easy to mix and use. The adhesive corresponds to international standards of the so-called C2 tile adhesive, thus can be utilized for most types of average and heavy granite floor tiles.
When to use: Floor tiles made of granite for internal homes, public offices, shopping centers, and overall pedestrian areas.
1.2 Adhesive for granite flooring based on epoxy
The epoxy granite adhesive is an efficient sort of adhesive system which is being a two-component adhesive is characterized by great tensile and shear strength, including all advantages and disadvantages of this type of adhesive combination. Besides that, the cement requires much time and effort to become dried unlike the epoxy granite adhesive which is overall much faster to set and dry.
Main characteristics: This adhesive possesses super high power of adhesion, waterproofing, resistance to chemicals and aging of products from exposure to indirect sunlight.
When to use: Different commercial flooring (supermarkets, railway stations).
